Thermo Electron Establishes Customer Demonstration Centers at Key Locations Around the World
Newest Center Opens Near Paris, France

The newest facility, located just south of Paris in Les Ulis, France, opened its doors to customers today.
Similar centers opened earlier this year in Yokohama, Japan and Frankfurt, Germany. Each features a complete laboratory equipped with Thermo's advanced chromatography, mass spectrometry, and spectroscopy product lines; sample preparation and storage equipment; and laboratory informatics software.

AMETEK ACQUIRES CHANDLER INSTRUMENTS COMPANY
Acquisition Expands AMETEK’s High-End Analytical Instrument Platform

Paoli, PA, September 2, 2003 -- AMETEK, Inc. (NYSE: AME) today announced the acquisition of Chandler Instruments Company, LLC, a leading manufacturer of high-quality measurement instrumentation for the oil and gas industry, for approximately $50 million. With its headquarters in Tulsa, OK, Chandler has expected 2003 sales of approximately $30 million.

Hub Technology Helps Streamline Lab Operations

Several customers using the new Model 900 Automated Viscometer have asked if they could operate multiple units from one computer. The answer to that is now an emphatic, "Yes!"

The OFITE Engineering Department has spent the last several months designing software and utilizing hub technology that allows a technician to simultaneously run and gather data from four Model 900 Viscometers. The new hardware, combined with enhancements in the ORCADA software, is now ready for implementation in your lab.

According to Dennie Norwood, OFITE's Engineering Manager, "This technology allows labs to minimize computer costs and maximize data collection, all while conserving valuable counter space. In addition, this technology may be adapted to other instruments, such as Ultrasonic Cement Analyzers and Consistometers."
